This seems like an appropriate time of year to repost the account of the poltergeist in our old farm-house. Settle in for a ghost story and keep the lights on. About nine years ago, my young adult son moved into the big white farm-house on our other farm. We have two farms located near each other in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and both homes are well over one hundred years old, going on two. Some of his guy friends moved in and everything was fine, then he and his fiancée (now wife) started remodeling the house. At first, no one thought much about the noises. Neither of them even mentioned a thing to me.

FOR SOMEWHERE MY LOVE
‘As I read Somewhere My Love, I recalled the feelings I experienced the first time I read Daphne DuMaurier’s Rebecca long ago. Using deliciously eerie elements similar to that gothic romance, Beth Tressel has captured the haunting dangers, thrilling suspense and innocent passions that evoke the same tingly anticipation and heartfelt romance I so enjoyed then, and still do now.’ ~by Joysann for Publishers Weekly at Beyond Her Book (blog feature now removed)

I’m not a believer in ghosts, but if anyone could convince me of their existence, I’m sure it would be you. 🙂 You are an evocative writer. It’s the small details that hooked me: the turning doornob, the freaked out cat and the saucepan lid. I’m sure all of this was absolutely true, but even as fiction it would work equally as well.

Thanks Wendy. That’s true, the essence of the story is in the details.

Holy Cow!! I am seriously freaked out… Goosebumps and all! I am the biggest chicken on the planet when it comes to stories like these (see my blog, if you don’t believe me…lol)

That was a creepy story. I had some weird things happen to me and the really old parts of the hospital including hearing my name. I answered thought it was my supervisor. Surprise no one there. Happened more than once too. So I do believe.

Great accounting, Beth. I live in an area where there is heavy ghost traffic. I haven’t yet encountered one that scared me yet, but they can be pesky and definitely add flavor to your life.

Beth, that story gives me chills! Glad you were able to get rid of those restless spirits.
Although I wouldn’t want to meet a real ghost, I love a good ghost story. I went on a ghost tour at Gettysburg several years ago, and those stories kept me from getting a good night’s sleep in the campground where we were staying. The site had been a Confederate camp during the battle. I think it may have been haunted too. lol

Very Interesting Susan. My great great grandfather was a Confederate officer during Ghettysburg and may have slept in that same spot. He survived the battle and recorded about it in his journal and is referred to by historians today. His name was George Williamson Finley. He was a lieutenant at that time, but surrendered for his company as he was the highest ranking officer left standing when the remnant of his men reached the top of Cemetery Ridge.

It was nice being introduced to you and your books. I love historical fiction and I will even read fantasy (-; so I’ll be checking out your backlist.

Beth, this gave me chills. I’m printing off the prayer, although it’s similar to one I used to rid my home of a sinister being. Unfortunately, my cute little ghost was affected and left too.

Wow, I don’t know if I would have stayed to do all that, I would have probably just run out the door and never come back. I’m a scaredy-cat, I used to love watching scary moves, but not any longer. I watched The Blair Witch Project and had to sleep with the light on for some time :-}
