(Written while at The Outer Banks)
Yesterday at my urging several of us went on a trek through Corolla, Duck, and Kitty Hawk, North Carolina in search of hush puppies, not as easy to locate you might think; certainly not as common as they once were. One newly arrived Northern hostess hadn’t even heard of them. But we were not to be thwarted in our quest.
On route, we passed unique establishments with names such as Birthday Suits, Bad Bean, and Try My Nuts, and stopped at various eateries to ask about hush puppies, but to no avail. On we wound through the wooded bay side of the Outer Banks where we admired shady neighborhoods with stately groves of trees and attractive homes on our journey which ultimately led us across the bridge to a charming eatery called Paradocks East Coast grille. At last. There we ate some of the best hush puppies ever. The rest of their offerings were good too and I recommend the sweet ice tea.
